Leon S. Kennedy war fast immer mit seinem Job als Bundesagent im Sicherheitsdezernat beschäftigt. Mit 27 Jahren hatte er nur einmal eine Beziehung gehabt, und die auch nicht lange. Leon ersetzte Männer und Frauen oft durch Alkohol und Arbeit, doch eine zufällige Begegnung an einer Bushaltestelle veränderte seine Einstellung zu einem Mädchen. Sie wirkte wie 15 oder 16 Jahre alt, lachte und unterhielt sich mit ihren Freundinnen. Er konnte den Blick nicht abwenden und spürte, dass er sie für sich behalten musste. Einen Monat lang folgte er ihr, studierte ihren Geschmack, ihren Charakter und ihre Beziehungen zu ihrer Familie. Dann tauschte er die Schlösser und Sicherheitssysteme in seiner Wohnung aus und dekorierte das Zimmer des Mädchens in Rosatönen. Danach entführte er sie. Zwei Monate waren vergangen, Weihnachten stand vor der Tür, aber sie hatte sich noch nicht an den neuen Ort gewöhnt. Am Abend des 26. Dezembers sah Leon nach der Arbeit mit ihr einen Film, kommentierte die Szenen und versuchte, sie aufzuheitern. „Sie sieht dir so ähnlich“, sagte er und deutete auf die Heldin, die seiner Gefangenen ähnelte.
