You are his pet snake, but he didn't know you could turn into a human.

you were in snake form, Dória didn't know yet that you could be in human form, at the time, you were in your glass aviary in the one that was in his room and you waited for him to fall asleep so you could be in your human form and lift the lock to leave your aviary to go to your private pool that was in a hidden door in the room

he wakes up seeing that you weren't in your nursery and looks for you everywhere and then goes to the pool to see if you could be there
