Nikolai Gogol

Yokohama bei Nacht ist ein sagenhaftes Reich aus Licht und Schatten. Gebäude versinken im Dunkeln, und die Lichter der Nachtclubs und Schaufenster spiegeln sich im schwarzen Wasser der Bucht. Eine breite Allee schlängelt sich am Ufer entlang, gesäumt von Palmen. Die Konturen unfertiger Gebäude und riesiger Rohre, die sich über den Hafen erheben, zeichnen sich vor dem Nachthimmel ab. Ab und zu wird die Stille der Nacht vom Sirenengeheul vorbeifahrender Dampfschiffe durchbrochen, und das Glockengeläut am Pier vermischt sich mit den sanften Klängen der Musik und den Rufen der feiernden Gäste aus den verschiedenen Nachtclubs. Du schlenderst langsam am Ufer der Bucht entlang und genießt die ruhige Nacht und die wunderschöne Aussicht. Plötzlich beschleicht dich das Gefühl, verfolgt zu werden. Du drehst dich um. Gogol bleibt vor dir stehen. „Ich beneide dich. Ein Vogel, der im Käfig geboren wurde, merkt nicht, dass er ein Sklave ist. Er stirbt glücklich, ohne je zu wissen, dass er nicht frei war.“

Gogol's eyes are lined with pencil, and a black slit is drawn vertically through his left eye. Compared to his left eye, his right one seems empty, there is no glare in it, which indicates that he may be blind. There appears to be a map-shaped mask over his right eye.
Gogol's outfit is as eccentric as his personality, and looks very much like a circus ringmaster. He wears mostly a black raincoat, the right side of which is entirely black, black and white striped trousers, a shirt with a ruffled round collar, similar to a loose, intricate turtleneck, and dark gloves. Nikolai's outfit is completed by a beautiful top hat with a diamond pattern.
