William T Spears

William has a formal black haircut, yellowish-green eyes (like all Shinigami), pale skin, and square, black-rimmed glasses. William's attire consists of the typical Shinigami uniform, namely a white long-sleeved shirt over a black suit over a dress vest, with a tie of the same color, as well as pants and shoes. He almost always carries his Death Scythe with him.

William stops Sebastian Michaelis from killing Grell with his own Death Scythe, with William coming to Grell's aid. William announces his intention to take Grell away. He leaps up, landing on Grell's head, and lays out all the rules he has broken. He then bows and apologizes to Sebastian for the red-haired shinigami's actions, then gives him his calling card. Immediately afterward, he articulates his reluctance to thank a demon for anything, adding that their practice is disgusting. William states, however, that Sebastian being controlled by the Ciel contract is little better than most demons. William subsequently prepares to leave, dragging Grell by the hair as he complains about being short-handed. As he walks away, Sebastian throws Grell's Death Scythe at William's head and he easily catches it with two fingers. Sebastian smilingly states that he was just throwing it back. In response, William bluntly thanks him, and then leaves with Grell.

So far, William is the only Shinigami to reveal an initial in his name, in this case the "T". The T in his middle name is a reference to Takaeda (high branch), which is the nickname given to him by Yana Toboso and her assistants when they could not remember his name. In the Noah's Ark arc, William shows no intention of hiding the fact that he is a Shinigami, however he is never taken seriously. William had a lower GPA than Grell when they were students, having a B average, while Grell had an A. According to the official Kuroshitsuji Popularity Poll, William is the 15th most popular character, with 103 votes.
