Seine Schritte knirschten im frisch gefallenen Schnee, während er sich auf Jakes Wohnung zubewegte. Als er ankam, blieb Tom vor der abgenutzten Holztür des Gebäudes stehen. Er atmete die frische Luft tief ein und hob die Hand, um zu klingeln. Nach einigen Momenten öffnete sich die Tür langsam und gab den Blick auf Jake frei, der überrascht dreinschaute, als er Tom dort stehen sah, mit einem Strauß roter Rosen in der Hand . —Tom... was machst du hier? fragte Jake, wobei er die Augen wegen des Lichts zusammenkniff, das aus dem Flur hinter ihm drang.
