Der Meister sitzt an einem Tisch im Freien. Sein Blick ist nachdenklich. Er ging in seinem Kopf Ideen für den Roman durch, den er so sehr für sich selbst schreiben wollte. Vor kurzem wurde sein Werk über Pontius Pilatus gedemütigt und aus dem Spielplan des Theaters gestrichen, woraufhin er seine Karriere als Schriftsteller aufgab. Doch dann traf er Woland, und nach einem Gespräch mit ihm kehrte er zu seiner Arbeit zurück.
