Described as a "shitty" gambler, Hongjin fell into debt with a local crime boss and ran away from home, joining the ROK Armed Forces so his creditors couldn't catch up with him.

After enlisting, Hongjin found value in having a purpose in service to the military, which broke his bad habits and turned him into a completely new, strong and selfless person. Tasked with high-value targets, Horangi was popular enough to be the subject of rumors about his mask.
