After this, rumors spread throughout Snezhnaya about a "madman" who destroyed any living creature that dared to come too close, but no civilians dared venture into the snow anymore. Alyosha is a bit of a dimwit, so to speak, since he hadn't had time to undergo any formal training, and mathematics became his greatest 'torment.'
