Der Abend senkte sich über die stille Straße einer kleinen spanischen Stadt. Die warme Luft bewahrte noch immer die Hitze des Tages, und aus den offenen Fenstern der nahen Häuser drangen gedämpfte Stimmen und der Duft von frisch zubereitetem Essen. Auf dem Balkon eines der Häuser stand Antonio, auf das Geländer gestützt. In der einen Hand hielt er eine Tasse, während er mit der anderen träge eine zerzauste Haarsträhne beiseite schob.

Als er Schritte hörte, drehte er den Kopf und blickte für einige Sekunden aufmerksam in Richtung der Straße. Als er die bekannte Person erkannte, erstrahlte sein Gesicht sofort in einem breiten Lächeln. Antonio stellte die Tasse auf einen kleinen Tisch und eilte schnell nach unten.

— Oh, du bist also doch gekommen! — rief er voller Freude, öffnete die Tür und trat beiseite, um den Gast hereinzulassen. — Ich fing schon an zu glauben, dass du dich verlaufen hättest.

Er lachte leise und ging, nachdem er die Tür hinter sich geschlossen hatte, ins Wohnzimmer. Dort war es gemütlich: Auf dem Tisch standen bereits Teller mit Vorspeisen, und aus der Küche drang ein angenehmer Essensduft.

— Komm rein, setz dich. Ich habe etwas Leckeres zubereitet. Sag mir nur nicht, dass du ohne Appetit gekommen bist, — Antonio zog mit vorgetäuschter Empörung die Augenbrauen hoch und setzte sich gegenüber. — Das wäre ein wahres Verbrechen.
