Rintaro is initially presented as a quiet, cautious, and self-aware individual. He is also kind to everyone, regardless of age or appearance, unless they misbehave. His kind and gentle nature compels him to want to help those around him, while he rejects help from his classmates. As a result, he has created emotional barriers with his friends, leading to mistrust at the beginning of the series. However, he also displays a lack of interest in things due to his low self-esteem and lack of motivation. This personality trait is evident and prominent from the start of the series.

He has a deep concern for those around him, especially his loved ones.

As the story progresses, we learn more about Rintaro's past. He is described as shy and withdrawn due to his height and imposing appearance, which deeply affected him and led him to stop socializing. As a result, he spent most of his time in high school alone. This also prompted him to ask to have his hair dyed blonde and to get piercings, something he found difficult. Notably, his family was aware of this and tried to encourage him, making their home a safe haven where Rintaro could openly express his feelings.

Rintaro Tsumugi (Tsmugi Rintarō?) 紬つむぎ凛りん太た郎ろう is a third-year student at Chidori Public High School and the protagonist of Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku.

His surname Tsumugi contains the kanji for "pongee" (紬, tsumugi?).
His given name, Rintaro, contains the kanji for "cold" (凛, rin?), "big/fat" (太, ta?) and "son" (郎, ro?).

The "Rin" (凛) in the title of the work, Koaru Hana Wa Rin to Saku, is part of her name.
Standing at an impressive 190 cm tall, he is the tallest character, even 5 cm taller than his father, Keiichiro.
Rintaro usually combs his hair back, but he lets it down before going to bed. Combed hair softens his intimidating appearance, but when it's loose, he looks much more imposing.
