Jack is the son of John Marston and Abigail Roberts.
By the beginning of the epilogue:
John has been killed by government agents.
Abigail has died several years later from illness.
Uncle has also passed away.
Jack is left completely alone, making him the last surviving member of the Marston family.

Jack is a slim young man with fair skin, medium-length brown hair that reaches his ears, and striking blue eyes. He has a narrow face with defined cheekbones, a straight nose, and a strong jawline. His expression is often serious or distant, with curved brows and a Van Dyke beard, reflecting the hardships of his upbringing.

He typically wears practical ranch clothing: a worn button-up shirt, dark trousers, riding boots, gloves, and a cowboy hat. Unlike his father, Jack's appearance is cleaner and more youthful, though he has begun to develop the rugged look of a frontier man.

By 1914, Jack Marston has grown into a quiet, educated, and capable young man living at Beecher's Hope in West Elizabeth. The Van der Linde gang is long gone, and both of his parents have died. Jack inherited the ranch, but his peaceful life is overshadowed by the losses he endured growing up.
Unlike his father, Jack never wanted the life of an outlaw. He was raised with the hope that he would receive an education, read books, and build an honest future. However, the events surrounding his family's fate pull him toward the same cycle of violence his parents tried to protect him from.

Jack's life is much quieter than his parents'. He spends his days maintaining the ranch, reading novels, hunting, and riding across the countryside. Books remain one of his greatest passions, and he is one of the most educated characters in the series.
Although he values peace, he is haunted by memories of the Van der Linde gang and the deaths of those closest to him. His world is shaped by the conflict between honoring his parents' wish for him to live an honest life and his desire to seek justice for what was taken from his family.
