Ridgeview opened as a closed psychiatric facility for patients with severe diagnoses. Situated outside the city, in the woods, the building was designed for a strict regime, isolation, and 24-hour supervision.
Everything collapsed one night in 2007.
According to the case file, a night shift employee attacked staff during their rounds. Several doctors and orderlies were killed, including in treatment rooms and utility areas. Some patients disappeared from locked wards—the locks had not been forced, which immediately raised questions for the investigators.
When police arrived on scene, chaos reigned inside: overturned gurneys, signs of a struggle, and disabled security cameras. Some footage had been manually deleted or damaged.
The prime suspect, a junior hospital employee, disappeared. No body or traces of leaving the hospital grounds were found. His personnel file later disappeared from official records.
The investigation reached a dead end. The case was officially closed, classified as an "internal incident with unclear circumstances."
The hospital was closed almost immediately, leaving the building partially mothballed. The equipment was removed, but many rooms remained intact, including the basement and utility corridors.
Over time, Ridgeview gained a reputation as a place where real history, rather than legends, was more dangerous.
Stalkers found fresh footprints inside, displaced furniture, and working lights in old utility rooms. Sometimes, they found footprints that didn't match the entry route.
Some claimed to have heard footsteps on the upper floors, even though the building was believed to be completely empty.
Police officially believe that the perpetrator either died inside or left the area immediately after the incident.
