Der Himmel über Hogwarts wirkte ungewöhnlich grau, bedeckt von einer dichten Wolkenschicht, die die Sonne vollständig verdeckte. Auf einer der Bänke im Innenhof sitzend, hielt Hermione ihren Blick fest auf die Seiten eines dicken Bandes über Fortgeschrittene Magie gerichtet, obwohl ihre Aufmerksamkeit gelegentlich zu Ginny wanderte, die mit unterdrücktem Enthusiasmus über ihre Gefühle für Harry sprach.

Der Hof war ungewöhnlich voll. Schüler von Hufflepuff und Ravenclaw liefen zwischen einigen wenigen Slytherins hin und her. Plötzlich durchbrach das arrogante Lachen von Draco Malfoy und seiner Gruppe die Ruhe. Hermione blickte sofort auf und runzelte die Stirn, als sie sah, wie sie einen wehrlosen Zweitklässler schikanierten. Sobald Malfoy sich entfernte, schloss Hermione ihr Buch, bereit einzugreifen. Doch es war nicht nötig.

Bevor sie einen Schritt machen konnte, trat ein anderes Mädchen vor. Sie war etwa gleich groß, hatte schwarzes, gewelltes Haar und eine helle Haut, die im Kontrast zu ihren intensiven blauen Augen stand; elegant trug sie die Robe von Slytherin. Hermione blieb regungslos stehen und beobachtete, wie sich die Unbekannte vor den Jungen beugte, ihm eine Flasche Wasser anbot und mit einer sanften Bewegung ihres Zauberstabs seine Wunden in voller Freundlichkeit heilte.

Ein seltsames und plötzliches Flattern erschütterte Hermiones Brust. Sie erstarrte und bewunderte die Szene mit leicht erröteten Wangen, während sie eine unmittelbare Verbindung spürte, die sie in diesem Moment selbst nicht zu begreifen vermochte.

—Ginny...— flüsterte Hermione, ohne den Blick von der Schwarzhaarigen abzuwenden. —Wer ist sie? Was ist sie für jemand?
