The Prominent Lower Moons
Muzan eliminated most of them for incompetence, but two left a clear mark:
Enmu (Lower Moon 1): Hedonistic Sadism
Pleasure in the suffering of others: Enmu is a twisted being who finds an almost artistic and deeply disturbing pleasure in watching people's faces contort in pain. He loves to give humans beautiful dreams only to turn them into horrific nightmares before killing them.
Rui (Lower Moon 5): The Obsession with Bonding
Toxic yearning for family: Because he killed his human parents in a misunderstanding after becoming a demon, Rui is obsessed with having a "family." He forces other weak demons to act as his siblings or parents through terror, pain, and psychological submission. If they don't fulfill their role perfectly, he tortures them.

Hantengu (Upper Moon 4): Hypocritical Cowardice
Victim complex: He is a decrepit old man who lives immersed in paranoia and tears, convinced that everyone is persecuting him and treating him unfairly. He never takes responsibility for his crimes.
Projection of emotions: His true personality is fragmented through his blood into clones that represent his extreme emotions: anger (Sekido), joy (Karaku), sadness (Aizetsu), pleasure (Urogi) and absolute hatred (Zohakuten), the latter being an authoritarian child who judges the hunters as "evil" for attacking a being as "weak" as himself.
Gyokko (Upper Moon 5): The Sadistic Narcissist
Distorted artistic ego: He believes himself to be a misunderstood and sublime artist. His personality is childish, arrogant, and extremely volatile.
Pure sadism: His "art" consists of deforming human bodies and fusing them with vases to create grotesque sculptures. If anyone insults his vases or ignores his art (as the blacksmith Haganezuka did by concentrating on his sword), Gyokko loses control and flies into a murderous rage.
Gyutaro and Daki (Upper Moon 6): Codependent Resentment and Vanity
Gyutaro (True Strength): He is cynical, cruel, envious, and filled with hatred for anyone who has had a beautiful life or a beautiful appearance, due to the misery and rejection he suffered as a human. His only soft spot is his sister.
Daki (The outer facade): She is capricious, extremely childish, arrogant, and cruel. She behaves like a spoiled child who throws tantrums if things don't go her way, relying entirely on her brother's strength for protection.

The Upper Moons (The Most Powerful)
Kokushibo (Upper Moon 1): The Living Pride and Envy
Pathological jealousy: His entire existence, since he was human (more than 400 years ago), has been dictated by a blind envy towards his twin brother, Yoriichi (the creator of the Breathing Techniques). He became a demon only to surpass him.
Distorted samurai code of honor: He is extremely formal, respectful of hierarchy, and speaks with a deathly calm. He values ​​military strength and fighting spirit, but his "honor" is broken because he abandoned his humanity out of pure selfishness.
douma (Upper Moon 2): The Apathetic Psychopath
Absolute inability to feel: Douma is the most psychologically dangerous demon because it suffers from a total emotional disconnection from birth. It feels no anger, sadness, pain, or love.
False charisma and messianism: He acts like a cheerful, friendly, flirtatious, and extremely polite man. He leads a religious cult and devours his female followers (especially young women) under the twisted logic that, by eating them, he is "saving" them from the suffering of the world and making them live eternally within it.
Akaza (Upper Moon 3): The Obsessed Warrior
Blind lust for power: He lives by a strict rule: only the strong deserve to live, and the weak must be eliminated. He deeply respects strong opponents (like Rengoku) and offers them the chance to become demons so they can fight for eternity.
Remaining principles: Due to his tragic human past (where he was unable to protect his fiancée or his master), his memories are blocked, but his subconscious maintains an unbreakable rule: he will never harm or devour a woman.

The Trigger: The Kamado Tragedy
The story is set in Japan's Taisho era. Tanjiro Kamado is a kind young man who sells charcoal to support his family. One day, returning to his mountain home, he discovers a horrific scene: a demon has massacred his entire family. The only survivor is his younger sister, Nezuko, who has been transformed into a demon.
Unlike other monsters, Nezuko retains human emotions and protects her brother. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka (a powerful swordsman), Tanjiro decides to become a Demon Slayer with two goals: to avenge his family and to find a cure to return Nezuko to normal.
⚔️ The Ascent: Friends and Training
After two years of grueling training with Master Urokodaki, Tanjiro masters Water Breathing and passes the Final Selection. On his journey, he teams up with two equally talented but very peculiar demon slayers:
Zenitsu Agatsuma: A cowardly boy who only unleashes lethal power when he faints from fear.
Inosuke Hashibira: A savage raised by boars who seeks to fight the strongest.
Soon, Tanjiro discovers that the one responsible for his misfortune is Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King and the creator of them all.
🩸 The Conflict: The Pillars vs. The Moons
To defeat Muzan, the Hunters organization relies on the Pillars (Hashira), humanity's nine strongest swordsmen. Muzan, on the other hand, leads the Twelve Demon Moons (divided into Six Lower and Six Upper, the latter being near-immortal beings who have lived for centuries).

Kotetsu (The Young Man with the Mask of Hyottoko)
Sarcastic and realistic: Despite being just a child, he has a very sharp tongue and is prone to telling painful truths without anesthesia (especially to Muichiro or Tanjiro).
Insecure but brave: He carries the pressure of inheriting his family's mechanical devices, believing he has no talent. However, he demonstrates great courage by risking his life to protect his village's legacy.

Hotaru Haganezuka (Tanjiro's Blacksmith)
Passionate to the point of madness: He is an eccentric, immature man with a volatile temper. His love for Nichirin swords borders on artistic obsession; if Tanjiro breaks or loses a sword, Hotaru will relentlessly pursue him with knives in a fit of comical fury.
Unwavering Focus: He possesses blind professional pride. He is capable of ignoring extreme physical pain or a direct enemy attack if he is focused on polishing a sword, demonstrating absurd mental strength.

Aoi Kanzaki (The Manager of the Butterfly Estate)
Strict and bossy: She's the one who imposes order at Butterfly Farm. She's usually grumpy, scolding, and very rough during rehabilitation training.
Cowardice and empathy complex: His tough attitude is a defense mechanism. He feels useless and cowardly for having survived the Final Selection by sheer luck and being too afraid to go and fight on the front lines. He channels that frustration by caring for and healing those who do fight with extreme dedication.

Kagaya Ubuyashiki (Oyakata-sama)
Absolute serenity and magnetism: He is the leader of the demon hunters. Despite his physical weakness, he exudes such profound calm that he can soothe even the most violent Pillars with a single word. His voice has a soothing tone that calms those who hear it.
Paternal love and extreme resolve: He treats all hunters as if they were his own children. He possesses a brilliant tactical mind and a terrifying determination; he is willing to sacrifice absolutely everything in order to eradicate Muzan's curse.

Yushiro (The Devout Protector)
Obsessive and unsympathetic: He is extremely loyal and hopelessly in love with Tamayo. To him, the rest of the world doesn't matter. He is rude, impatient, and jealous of anyone who tries to get close to her (especially Tanjiro).
Hidden courage: Although he seems selfish, when the situation requires it, he proves to be a valuable ally, intelligent and willing to risk his life if it helps Tamayo's plans.

Tamayo (The Demon Doctor)
Elegance, compassion, and remorse: Unlike most demons, Tamayo is peaceful, wise, and possesses infinite grace. She lives tormented by the sins she committed in the past under Muzan's control.
Cold revenge: Behind his kind and medical nature, he hides an absolute, cold and calculating hatred towards Muzan, dedicating centuries of his life to science with the sole purpose of destroying him.

Kanao Tsuyuri (The Silent Successor)
Emotional numbness and indecisiveness: Due to severe childhood trauma (abuse and poverty), Kanao learned to suppress her emotions to avoid suffering. She is unable to make decisions on her own, so she relies on flipping a coin to decide what to do when she doesn't have direct orders.
Emotional awakening: Thanks to Tanjiro, she begins to break down her shell, revealing a deeply loyal and protective personality towards her adoptive sisters (Shinobu and Kanae) and an iron will hidden beneath her eternally calm smile.

Genya Shinazugawa (The Rebel Hunter)
Hostile facade, vulnerable interior: At first he presents himself as a rude, lonely, aggressive and taciturn boy, imitating the attitude of his brother Sanemi.
Insecurity and loyalty: In reality, he suffers from a huge inferiority complex because he can't use the Breathing techniques. His aggression is a layer of frustration; deep down, he's a shy, noble young man, willing to sacrifice himself for his friends and to win back his brother's love.

Sakonji Urokodaki (The Former Water Pillar)
Stoic yet paternal: He hides his face behind a Tengu mask and maintains an extremely strict military discipline with his students. However, he possesses a heart of gold. He carries the pain of having lost many disciples and develops a deep (almost grandfatherly) protective instinct towards Tanjiro and Nezuko.

Gyomei Himejima (Rock): The Pious Giant
Religious compassion: He is a blind, extremely religious man who constantly cries for the tragedies of the world and prays for the salvation of souls (even demons).
Rational leader: Despite their sensitivity, they are the strongest pillar and act as the voice of reason. They are cautious and distrustful of people until they demonstrate their true worth.

Sanemi Shinazugawa (Wind): The Unleashed Fury
Aggressive and hostile: He is the most violent, impulsive, and difficult pillar to deal with. His scarred body reflects his mind: he is in a constant state of war.
Twisted fraternal love: His brutality is a defense mechanism. He hates demons with an almost psychotic fervor, and mistreats his brother Genya only to keep him out of harm's way and safe.

Mitsuri Kanroji (Love): The Passionate Emotional One
Affectionate and shy: She joined the hunters with the tender (and somewhat comical) goal of finding a husband stronger than herself. She is cheerful, easily excited, and always praises others in her mind.
Fierce strength: Despite her sweet and "cliché" personality, she is a relentless warrior who does not hesitate to use her physical mutation to tear demons apart if they harm her friends.

Muichiro Tokito (Mist): The Absent-Minded Genius
Initial apathy: Due to amnesia from childhood trauma, he lives "in the clouds", he is indifferent, logical to the point of coldness and does not let emotions cloud his judgment.
Passionate Awakening: After recovering his memories, he reveals himself as a deeply empathetic young man, with a big heart and an immense fury directed towards demons.

Tengen Uzui (Sound): The Extravagant Ex-Shinobi
Eccentricity and ego: He is fascinated by everything "showy" and glamorous, often showing himself to be arrogant and demanding.
Protective and realistic: Behind his bright facade, he carries the guilt of his past as a ninja. He values ​​the lives of his wives and subordinates far more than the mission, something rare among the Pillars.

Kyojuro Rengoku (Flame): Unwavering Optimism
Charisma and duty: Eccentric, loud, and always enthusiastic. He possesses a strict moral code instilled by his mother: "The strong must protect the weak."
Purity of spirit: He knows neither resentment nor self-pity; he accepts his destiny with a smile and is a born leader who inspires everyone around him.

Shinobu Kocho (Insect): The Smiling Fury
Mask of serenity: She always appears cheerful, calm, and playful, but it's a facade. Inside, she harbors a blind fury and a deep hatred for the demons for killing her sister.
Analytical mind: She is pragmatic, extremely intelligent, and compensates for her lack of physical strength with cunning and refined sadism towards her enemies.

Giyu Tomioka (Water): The Misunderstood Loner
Inferiority complex: Although he seems cold, distant and unfriendly, he suffers from a severe imposter syndrome due to past traumas (he believes he does not deserve to be the Water Pillar).
Silent Justice: He doesn't talk much, but his actions demonstrate great compassion (he was the one who spared Nezuko's life).

Inosuke Hashibira: The Savage with a Kind Heart
Pride and competitiveness: Raised by wild boars, his philosophy is "survival of the fittest." At first, he is rough, violent, and wants to fight anyone to prove he is the strongest.
Emotional evolution: He is emotionally illiterate at the beginning, but through Tanjiro he learns about friendship, kindness and sadness, becoming deeply loyal to his "pack".

Zenitsu Agatsuma: The Brave Coward
Low self-esteem and panic: He constantly believes he is going to die and seeks validation from others (especially women). He is loud, dramatic, and easily frightened.
Hidden loyalty and honor: Despite his cowardice, when his friends are in real danger or when he sleeps (activating his subconscious), a lethal warrior emerges, focused and with a deep respect for his master.

Nezuko Kamado: The Protective Will
Innocence and ferocity: As a human, she was loving and selfless. As a demon, she retains a more childlike mind but develops a fierce protective instinct towards Tanjiro and humans (whom she sees as her family thanks to Urokodaki's hypnotism).
Self-control: Possesses a superhuman willpower to resist the urge to consume human blood.

Tanjiro Kamado: The Empathic Heart
Unconditional kindness: It is the emotional core of the series. Her empathy knows no bounds; she is capable of feeling pity and praying for demons in their final moments, recognizing that they were once human.
Iron will: She never gives up. Her driving force is her love for her sister Nezuko and her sense of duty.
Brutal honesty: He is incapable of lying (he literally gets a tic or feels bad if he does) and is extremely mature for his age.
