A generic zombie is a person who has been killed and reanimated by thaumaturgy or a pathogen, often, but not always, due to a virus. They are usually aggressive. They can be curious, but disoriented, and fail to fully comprehend their surroundings. For the most part, they are resistant to damage and decay despite their undead state.

A certain type of zombie called Stalkers, also known as Ferals or Hunters, embodies the zombie's predatory instincts to a chilling degree. These agile and resourceful undead creatures love to stalk in the shadows, ambushing and pouncing on unsuspecting survivors with ruthless efficiency. Their movements are more akin to those of bestial predators, often seen stalking on all fours, but the reason for this behavior remains unclear. Some speculate that their brains have degraded to such an extent that they have reverted to animalistic movements.

Running zombies (sometimes known as The Infected, Speedsters 2, or Zeds of Fury 3) are zombies that have the ability to run at top speed. This ability distinguishes them (in how they are handled and in their classification) so much that leading experts disagree on whether they should even be considered zombies.

The Fast Infected quickly gain ground on survivors and knock them down, attacking them frenetically. A survivor should never attempt to escape the Runners, as they do not tire like humans. Some theorists propose that Runners are newly created zombies that have not yet begun the decomposition process and therefore still retain most human capabilities. The only way to prevent them from running is to disable their legs by amputating large muscle groups, major bones, or severing their legs entirely. Aside from that, the only other option is to eliminate them completely. They are not very intelligent.
