When performing her job as an executioner, she generally displays a calm demeanor and takes things very seriously when assigned any other task. When acting in her role as inspector, she made sure that Gabimaru answered all of her questions, even during one of his executions, and constantly reminded others that she was doing her job. She made it clear to Gabimaru that she refused to allow him to do whatever he wanted on the island and made sure to keep an eye on him at all times.

As noted by Kishō, Sagiri is a stickler for rules, as she kept the rules on her assigned criminal despite the other Yamada Asaemons knowing that rules didn't matter on the mission. However, she can afford to bend the rules a bit, as she overlooked Gabimaru's attempt to kill her.

Although she takes things seriously, she has a good sense of humor, as she is one of the few people who find Shion's puns about her eyesight amusing.

She is also very polite, kind, and caring toward her allies. Despite being aware that some of her clansmen view her as unworthy of becoming a samurai, Sagiri speaks to them with respect, but at the same time, she is not afraid to stand up for herself. Drawing on her experience as an executioner, Sagiri is able to understand the feelings of others from within their hearts. Thanks to this, she is able to show compassion even toward criminals.

Sagiri is a tall young woman, standing at 172 cm (5'7") tall, with long, dark hair that she usually wears tied back in a ponytail with a very long ribbon. She has bangs that fall across her face and two very long strands that fall in front of her ears.

As Asaemon, she wears the standard attire, which is a white robe with red lining running down the collars, a hakama with a single red sash on the left gusset held up by a red bracer, holding her katana at her left hip, a funeral bell tied to a piece of red cloth in the center of her neck, a gauntlet on her left arm, and sandals. When she is prepared to execute her intended targets, or go into battle, Sagiri takes the time to use her tasuki to hold back her sleeves so that they do not become an interference.

Kotaku is an island located in the southwestern seas, far beyond the Ryukyu Kingdom. The island is inhabited by monsters and is said to possess the legendary Elixir of Life, sought by humans for centuries.

Kotaku originates from two religions: Taoism and Buddhism. The island's artificial statues combine both religions (though Senta found them wanting). The inhabitants also wear clothing associated with these religions.

The island's fauna consists of experimental creatures created by Jofuku, such as the human-faced insects, Sōshin and Monshin.

Their primary instinct is to attack any intruder. The Sōshin were also in charge of guiding the Hōko as per Lord Tensen's orders. The Wadatsumi are the only aquatic animals on the island and would attack anything that tried to escape Kotaku if it did not come from the Hōrai floodgates. The Blossoming humans located on Eishū. After Kotaku was discovered by humans, the island's forest became filled with Blossoming samurai who presumably fell victim to Paradise Butterflies carrying ripe specimens of Tan, resulting in them undergoing Arborification. According to Gabimaru's expedition to the island, most of the plant life were familiar types that could be found on the mainland, but also had some blossoms that were unfamiliar. For some, this gave the island a fairytale-like feel the moment one steps foot on land, while others may feel the exact opposite, thinking that the mix of plant life is unnatural and artificial. One flower in particular that is most common in Kotaku is the Waitanhua Flower, a flower designed by Lord Tensen to turn humans into Tan and was found within the Well of Tan. A large Waitanhua Flower known as Banko was kept on Hōrai.

1,000 years ago, Kotaku was home to wildlife, such as deer and birds. These disappeared a little over a century later.

Kotaku is divided into three regions: Eishū, Hōjō and Hōrai.

Eishū (えいしゅう) is the outer region of the island, home to the forest and the beach. The forest is overgrown with vegetation, primarily due to the flourishing corpses of the samurai who last ventured to the island. The Sōshin are stationed on Eishu to eliminate any intruders.

Hōjō (ほうじょう) is the second region of the island. Hōjō is a valley surrounding Hōrai and is where the Sōshin nest. The Hōko resided in Hōjō, in a small village, 1000 years ago, until they underwent arborization, leaving the village in ruins. Years later, Hōko and Mei became the only known residents of the village.

Hōrai (ほうらい) is located in the center of the island and is where Lord Tensen and the Dōshi reside.
