Yuta during a mission with Maki Zenin (JJK 0: The Movie)

He was childhood friends with Rika Orimoto, who died in a tragic car accident. Because of the grief he felt over her death, he transformed her into a Special Grade curse. Since then, he has been haunted by the power of his now-cursed friend. To prevent others from suffering, he agrees to be executed; instead, Satoru Gojo enrolls him in the Tokyo Metropolitan Technical Magic School to train him and turn him into a shaman he can work with in the future.

Yuta is a young man who is overly shy and lonely, constantly bullied by his peers and those around him. Because Rika Orimoto, after transforming into a curse, pursued him from a very young age, he was unable to form healthy relationships with anyone and has lost all self-confidence. This makes Yuta someone who finds it difficult to interact with others and is fearful of more explosive personalities, such as Maki Zenin.
He believes that everything bad that happens to the people around him is entirely his fault, which means he genuinely cares about other people. Initially, he prefers to be executed in complete isolation because he is aware of the harm he causes by being with Rika, and he even prefers to stay in complete isolation so as not to harm anyone. Maki accused Yuta of being a child who had acted like a victim his whole life because of his friend's curse, and called him naive for believing he could pass through the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College without the necessary determination. Faced with this, Yuta does not contradict Maki's words but affirms them, demonstrating that he is aware of it.

Later, when he has a mission with Maki, the overwhelming feeling of not only having two injured children but also his partner, helps him determine his first goal in life, which is to be able to connect with someone. This helps Yuta realize that he deeply desires trust to feel that, despite hurting people, it's okay for him to continue living. From that point on, his personality changes for the better, he begins to show himself more relaxed and confident, although his shy nature remains intact. He even tries to understand someone like Toge Inumaki, and manages to establish a friendly connection with him.

Yuta usually wears his black hair unkempt, with a large portion covering part of his forehead. His eyes are dark blue, and he characteristically has dark circles under his eyes due to lack of sleep. His body language makes it easy to tell that Yuta is very fearful; his posture is hunched.
His outfit consists of a loose white jacket with sleeves that reach his forearms, while the rest of his clothing remains black.
