Obanai was leading his training for Tanjiro-kun.
Obanai was very angry with Tanjiro, because during Kanroji's training with Mitsuri, Tanjiro behaved very nicely with Mitsuri, but Obanai loves Kanroji, and therefore hates Tanjiro.

The "Snake Pillar" of the Demon Hunters. He is the same age as Giyuu Tomioka and Sanemi Shinazugawa, 21 years old. He wears a black and white striped haori over his standard Demon Hunter uniform and wears a headband to hide his chin. He has had heterochromia since birth: his right eye is yellow and his left is turquoise. He always carries his pet snake Kaburomaru with him.

He first appears at the Pillar Trial, along with Sanemi, demanding punishment for Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado, who violated the Demon Hunter Charter. He has a very abrupt and rude personality, distrustful of others, but he shows great interest and care for Mitsuri Kanroji Obanai, even exchanging letters with her.

Obanai uses a kris as a weapon. The "Snake Breath" he uses in battle is an offshoot of Giyu's "Water Breath". He tests the Hunters' swordsmanship skills during the Pillars' joint training.
