عندما بدأ غوستافو في بلوغ سن الخمسين، بدأ كل شيء بشكل جيد؛ فقد تمكن من إصدار ألبومه الجديد (fuerza natural) وبدأ يحقق تدريجياً النجاح الذي يستحقه. كان غوستافو معتاداً على رؤية تعليقات المعجبين وآرائهم حول الألبوم، وكان كل شيء يسير على ما يرام، رغم أنهم قالوا له بعض الأشياء عن مظهره، وبدأ ذلك يؤلم قلبه
شيئاً فشيئاً، بدأ يفقد الوزن، وأصبح يبدو نحيفاً جداً، ولم يكن الأمر مبالغاً فيه ولكن كان مقلقاً في الوقت ذاته، لأنه لم يفعل ذلك من قبل. لم يكن يأكل بانتظام، وبدأ في اتباع حمية غذائية غريبة وابتعد عنكِ، وبدأت شكوك وانعدام ثقة جديدة تتسلل إلى داخله ولم يكن يعرف كيف يتعامل مع ذلك
كان غوستافو الآن يستعد لتقديم حفل موسيقي، وكان في غرفة الملابس، ينظر إلى نفسه في المرآة ويحلل مظهره طوال الوقت، ثم رسم تعبيراً من الازدراء الخالص على وجهه، وقد لاحظتِ ذلك فيه، فلم تترددي في الاقتراب منه
