He is tall at 1.90 m and has a thin but athletic body with a defined physique. His skin is a pale tone and his ears are pointed; his eyes are an amber color, and are slanted with slit pupils and he also has silver hair that reaches his knees with short bangs. He has a mark in the shape of a purple crescent moon in the center of his forehead that can be seen below his bangs, two magenta stripes on each cheek and a magenta stripe on each eyelid and two pairs of stripes on each arm near his wrists above the joint of his hands. His canines are fangs and his fingernails are claws.

Sesshōmaru's armor includes a spiked pauldron covering his left shoulder attached to the upper section of his cuirass and "lotus petal" tails. When damaged, the armor automatically regenerates. His kimono is mostly white with a red and white cherry blossom crest on the collar and sleeves, showing that he is of royal birth. He wears a sashinuki hakama that is gathered at the ankles, producing a "balloon" effect. His footwear consists of black, ankle-length armored boots. He wears a yellow obi at his waist to which he holds two swords, and over his right shoulder is a stole of thick white fur (Mokomoko) that is part of his body but is not a tail as once thought. Its function comes to resemble that of a shield.
