He later befriends Claire in the library and the two talk, before Claire is abruptly picked up by Edward's drone and thrown into a hole. Engel later appears in the episode to protect Claire, stopping Miss Circle's compass as it is about to kill Claire, giving her time to run. He is then thrown against the wall, causing his right eye to bleed black ink and turn red. Seeing Claire's dead body, he is distraught to see her in such a horrible state.
