Michiru Kagemori

Michiru is a fictional character appearing in the manga and anime BNA: Brand New ANIMA. In the story, Michiru is a Beastman, a creature with both human and animal characteristics, in this case with traits of a tanuki. Despite her appearance, Michiru is able to change into human form and has enhanced physical and mental abilities.

As for her physical appearance, Michiru has light brown skin and blue hair with black tips. Additionally, she has large teal eyes and black cat ears on top of her head. Her hair and tail are cut at chin length and she has markings around her eyes, which could suggest that Michiru also has raccoon-like features.

In her everyday life, Michiru wears a loose-fitting gray T-shirt, navy blue dolphin shorts, a red sports jacket with white trim, and white sneakers with red soles. Additionally, she carries a light corduroy canvas backpack and a basketball in a yellow bag.

However, Michiru also has a human form, in which she has pale skin, black hair and eyebrows, and brown eyes. She also has an asymmetrical bob haircut with a lock of hair sticking out from her left side.

Michiru is a very active person, who enjoys her free time a lot, playing sports and spending time with friends. However, she is also a very responsible person, who always fulfills her obligations and takes her role as a student and as a part of society seriously.

All in all, Michiru is a fascinating and nuanced character who has become a fan favorite of both anime and manga.

Michiru is compassionate, brave, and energetic. She cares for both Beastmen and humans and will not condone violence against anyone, even terrorists and those with malicious intent. She does everything she can to protect her comrades, even at her own expense.

Michiru's strong will also comes through in her actions. She is stubborn and not easily swayed by peer pressure. Once she has a set goal in mind, she is determined to achieve it. When Michiru loses her wallet, despite all of her peers telling her that the chances of recovery are slim to none, she continues to search for clues. But sometimes her willpower can be a flaw that is recklessness, ignoring her own safety as a result. This trait of hers sometimes leads her to put her own opinions before others without first understanding their viewpoints.

At first, she despised her beastman form, but after living in Anima City and learning more about beastman, she decided to stay that way for a while. "The Mole Rat Speaks" stated her initial opinion on it attributed to how little she knew about beastmen in general or what it feels like to live as one. In the manga, she appears to be drunk when she drank a catnip-laced drink.

It all begins when Michiru, an 18-year-old girl, arrives in Anima City, a place where animals and humans live together in harmony. Like other "Beastmen", Michiru has the ability to transform into an animal form, in her case a tanuki. However, unlike the others, Michiru is the only one capable of living in both her human and animal forms.

As she adjusts to her new life in Anima City, Michiru begins to experience problems with her ability to transform into a tanuki. In particular, when she becomes nervous or stressed, her animal form surfaces uncontrollably. This causes the people of Around Company, an organization tasked with monitoring and controlling the "Beastmen," to consider her a problem and a danger to society.

Thus, Michiru must deal with discrimination and exclusion from society while trying to lead a normal life. However, everything changes when she begins to investigate the origins of her ability to transform into a tanuki. In the process, she uncovers a conspiracy involving Around Company and the reason behind the existence of the "Beastma"

Shapeshifting/Copy Ability: As with normal beastmen, Michiru can shapeshift between her human form and the basic beastman form (blue tanuki). But due to the nature of her mutation, she can turn her body parts into those of other animals to suit her needs, where some of them were copied after those of the beastmen she encountered:
'Rabbit Ears: Michiru's ears can elongate and resemble a rabbit's ears, allowing her to listen to conversations from far away or hear through walls or doors.
Bird Beak: Michiru can turn her snout into a bird's beak, allowing her to amplify her voice. She also appears to gain tail feathers, as well as a crest on her head similar to that of a rooster.
Gorilla Punch: While preparing to throw an object or deliver a punch, Michiru's arms enlarge to an enormous size due to increased muscle mass, allowing her to easily overpower opponents or create gusts of wind with thrown objects. Her throws, at least with a baseball, seem to be capable of denting and shattering concrete.
Cheetah Speed: Michiru's lower half of her body turns into that of a cheetah, replacing her legs and tail with those of the agile predator, allowing for an incredible burst of speeds. The tail is likely there to act like an actual cheetah's tail would in the wild, as a way to counteract the twisting of the body while spinning at high speeds while maintaining balance.
Wings: Michiru's arms can transform into wings that can grow in size when needed, while her tail and legs take on avian characteristics, including sharp claws, all originally modeled after Pinga's. When she first increased the size of her wings, she managed to rise up and fly with Hiromu Yaba in the form of a man.

Long Arms: Michiru can extend and bend her arms to reach far away objects.
Expandable Tail: Michiru's tail can expand to a massive size easily, or it can be used as a shield by wrapping around herself and others to protect them from harm.
Pseudo-Photokinesis: Whenever Michiru shapeshifts any of her body parts or changes between her human form and base beastman form, the process is often accompanied by flashes of light, particularly when she is in distress. When she expanded her tail to stop Shirou and the attacking terrorists from fighting, Michiru unwittingly generated a bright flash of light that blinded everyone present. The light itself is produced by the excess energy generated by her beast factor.
