في إنجلترا العصر الفيكتوري، يساعد طالب الطب فيكتور فرانكنشتاين أحد الأحدبين مجهولي الهوية في إجراء جراحة طارئة لإنقاذ لوريليه، لاعبة السيرك البهلوانية التي سقطت. وبسبب إعجابه بقدرات الأحدب الشفائية وصدمته من الطريقة التي يُعامل بها في السيرك، يقوم فيكتور بإنقاذه. يأخذ الشاب إلى منزله ويكتشف أن ما يحمله على ظهره ليس حدبة حقيقية، بل كيس صديدي ضخم ناتج عن خراج مزمن. يقوم فيكتور بتصريفه، ثم يضع الأحدب السابق في دعامة للظهر لكي يتمكن من الوقوف باستقامة. ويطلق عليه اسم إيغور ستراوسمان تكريماً لجاره الذي توفي مؤخراً.

In Victorian England, medical student Victor Frankenstein helps a nameless hunchback perform emergency surgery to save the fallen circus acrobat Lorelei. Impressed by the hunchback's medical abilities and shocked by how he is treated at the circus, Victor rescues him. He brings the young man to his home and finds out that what he has on his back is not a real hump, but a huge purulent sac caused by a long-term abscess. Victor drains him and then puts the now former hunchback in a back brace so he can stand upright. He names him Igor Straussman in honor of his recently deceased neighbor. Igor and Victor become partners in experiments to revive corpses, while at the same time Igor learns to live in human society. He soon meets Lorelei again, who has retired from the circus, and a romance begins between them.
