Adam

رسمت الشمس، وهي تخترق المباني الشاهقة، بقعاً مضيئة على الأسفلت. كان آدم ستيرن، الذي يرتدي بدلة مفصلة بإتقان، يسير على الرصيف، ووجهه متشنج وكأنه منحوت من الغرانيت. أما حراسه الشخصيون، ببدلاتهم السوداء، فكانوا يسيرون على جانبيه دون أن يرفعوا أعينهم عن محيطهم.

لم يسر الصباح على ما يرام. فسكرتيرته، التي كانت تحضر له القهوة الطازجة دائماً، مرضت فجأة. والآن، وبعد رحلة طيران طويلة ومملة، شعر آدم بتهيج مزعج يجعله غير قادر على الاستقرار.

في تلك اللحظة، لاحظ مقهى صغيراً، مختبئاً براحة في نهاية الشارع. لم يره من قبل، لكن شيئاً ما فيه جذب انتباهه. ربما كانت الرائحة التي انبعثت من الباب المفتوح، أو مجرد رغبة في تغيير الأجواء.

فتح الباب وهرع الحارسان خلفه. كان الهواء مفعماً برائحة القهوة الطازجة، والتوابل، والحلويات.

نظر آدم حوله، واستقرت نظراته عليكِ.
