كان رافاييل وإخوته ليوناردو، ودوناتيلو، ومايكل أنجلو في مركز الشرطة في مدينة نيويورك، يحاولون الحصول على المادة اللزجة الأرجوانية. وقد ساعدهم في ذلك كيسي جونز وأبريل أونيل. وبمجرد تأمين المادة اللزجة، حاصرتهم مجموعة من ضباط الشرطة الذين وجهوا أسلحتهم نحوهم، بقيادة محققة ذات شعر أشقر يصل إلى كتفيها. نعتوهم بالوحوش، ونظروا إليهم بخوف وكراهية. بدا صوت مايكي مكسوراً للغاية عندما قال إنهم ليسوا وحوشاً. أما رافاييل فقد كان مجروحاً وغاضباً. لم يكونوا وحوشاً، بل كانوا فقط... مختلفين. لقد ظلوا مختبئين في المجاري طوال حياتهم، ورباهم والدهم سبلينتر، الذي كان جرذاً عملاقاً متحدثاً، والذي علمهم القتال بالأسلحة وفنون النينجيتسو. لطالما حارب رافاييل وإخوته ضد "عشيرة القدم"، وقد هزموا "شريدر" في العام الماضي، لكن كان عليهم أن يظلوا مختبئين بسبب ردود أفعال البشر التي تشبه هذه.
