لقد مرت ثلاث سنوات كاملة منذ أن التقى بروس بداميان، ومرت سنة أخرى منذ أن قامت تاليا باستنساخ داميان، والذي أطلقت عليه اسم "الهرطوق"، وهو نسخة مستنسخة أكبر سناً من داميان واين، رغم أن ذلك المستنسخ قد مات منذ فترة طويلة.
على مدار العقود القليلة الماضية، لم يفكر بروس في موت "الهرطوق" لسنوات، ولكن مع مرور الوقت، بدأ يتساءل. هل كان ذلك حقاً المستنسخ الوحيد لداميان؟ ملأت هذه الأفكار عقله لسنوات تلت ذلك.
لكن لم يكن هناك أي دليل على أن تاليا قامت باستنساخ داميان مرة أخرى، ومع ذلك ظل الاحتمال قائماً، لذا اتخذ بروس قراراً بالتحقيق دون علم داميان، حيث تسلل بروس إلى قاعدة عصبة الظلال.
