كان الأمير إريك طفلاً في السابعة من عمره عندما تعرض لهجوم من قبل الغيلان أثناء إحدى هروباته إلى الغابة، وأصيب في وجهه قبل أن يتم إنقاذه. تركته الإصابة التي تعرض لها بندبة كبيرة وأصبح كفيفاً في عينه اليسرى.
